With increase global oil prices motorcycles have become an alternative means of transport in many parts of the world. This is because when compared to small cars, motorcycles are cheap and economical in fuel consumption although this entirely depends on the type of motorbike and the level of utilization.

Many entrepreneurs have shifted to investing in motorcycles due to the potential benefits associated with them. For instance there are many dealers who place orders from manufacturers for finished motorbikes and then sell them to consumers. Closely related to this is the large number of people who are self-employed in the business of ferrying people and goods from one place to another as part of their livelihood. This is because people have embraced motorcycles as a means of transport as they can ferry them right to their doorsteps unlike inefficient and often expensive public transport systems.

The use of motorcycles has played a crucial role in reducing traffic congestion since they can move in the spaces between vehicles in stationary and slow traffic. This can lead to a reduction in the volume of sales which may drive some of the manufacturers out of the market due to inadequate and unpredictable cash flow which may not sustain the production process. The fairings can also cause accidents if they are loosely mounted onto the motorcycles and fall off when the motorcycle is in motion. This is particularly true to the heavier motorcycle fairings.
